Dear friends,
Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter! This is a forum for me to share our progress, nurture the momentum and continue building our community of supporters!
This will be a long read. Grab your favorite beverage and settle in …
In memory of …
Please join me in remembering Senator Nancy Cook. Nancy served for over 35 years as the 15th District’s State Senator and remained a true trailblazer and giant in the Kent County community. Over the years, I had the distinguished honor of serving alongside Nancy on boards and committees. I’m eternally grateful for her advice and blessings as I launched my campaign. Nancy is a legend who will be dearly missed.
Thank you
You all really showed up for me with your time, talent, and trust to support my endeavor! Many of you have written postcards, door-knocked, walked in parades, offered to host meet and greets, and even attended events with me. I couldn’t do it without you! Thank you is an understatement.
My Actions Match My Words
Keeping the promise that I made at my campaign kickoff, I have visited farmers, small business owners, rotaries, auxiliaries, schools, and town hall meetings in many parts of District 15! I have been greeted with enthusiasm from people in Farmington, Harrington, Hartly, Marydel, Felton, Cheswold, Clayton, and Smyrna (not in my district but they’re still excited)! I still have many towns to go!
This may not surprise many of you but canvassing (fancy word for door-knocking) has been my FAVORITE part of campaigning. I have enjoyed meeting people (even those who were repulsed by a Democrat) and listening to issues that are weighing on their minds. Among Democrats and Republicans, the sentiment remains the same: people are tired of the divisive political climate and yearn for a moderate who is willing to reach across the aisle. [THAT’S ME, y’all.]
I’m hearing over and over that people are feeling burdened by the high cost of healthcare, gas, groceries, and utilities. Affordability isn’t just a slogan. For working middle class families, the REAL AFFORDABILITY problem is the gap between their income and rising costs. A full-time job should be enough to thrive, not just survive.
These issues are not partisan issues; these are people issues. They affect everyone – Democrat or Republican.
AND we have to help everyone by investing in what helps them get ahead: good schools, job training, better wages, and smart economic growth so opportunity isn’t determined by your ZIP code. It shouldn’t feel like the finish line keeps moving.
Western Kent County desperately needs new leadership. I’m here for it.
Women’s History Month
My dear friend, Reverend Paige invited me to attend her church in Frederica to celebrate Women of Unshakable Faith. This is where faith meets community. If you have not had the honor of attending one of Rev Paige’s services … YOU NEED TO GO!
I also had the privilege of watching Senator Duckworth (IL) receive the Biden Institute’s Power and Purpose Award. Her sacrifices for our country and advocacy for women and people with disabilities continue to make real impacts.
In closing out Women’s History Month, let’s not forget to celebrate women who are farmers, first responders, and part of the law enforcement community. These women are a significant part of Senate District 15.
